Laser Tattoo Removal

While humans have been decorating themselves with tattoos is more than 5000 years there are occasions where someone may feel that that permanent tattoo may is now unwanted or simply out dated and want to replace it with another design. Of the many removal options available, which can include chemical burning and physical abrasion, laser removal offers the safest option with least risk of side effects and permanent scarring.

How does it work?

Tattoos are created by inserting bubbles of dye into the dermis. These bubbles are of a sufficient size that the body’s natural waste disposal methods cannot target them and remove them as it would other tiny foreign invaders. Very short pulses of laser light are used that shatter the dye bubbles into smaller bits, in a manner similar to the wine glass shattering when the opera singer hits the right high note. The smaller fragments can then be targeted by the body’s waste disposal mechanisms and removed from the area of skin.

How many treatments?

The number of laser tattoo removal treatments required will very much depend on whether your tattoo is an amateur or professional design and what colours of ink have been used in it. During your consultation a full assessment of the tattoo will be made which will help your Consultant give you an informed plan of treatment. It is not unusual for many tattoos to require 8 or more sessions.

Is it painful?

Most people that have had laser treatment have said that the laser tattoo removal treatment is no more uncomfortable than the procedure to make the tattoo in the first place. Cooling will be provided during and after your treatment which is suitable for most clients. Topical pain relief is an option that can be discussed during your consultation.

Is it safe?

Laser treatment for tattoo removal is now very well established. Many thousands of people have been treated over the last ten years and as long as the treatment is performed correctly by trained professionals and you follow advice there should be no side effects at all.

Are results permanent?

Once removed the dye of the tattoo will no longer provide a visible marking on the skins tissue. Occasionally there can be some ghosting of an image caused by some residual dye or by scar tissue that is caused when the tattoo was actually placed in the skin.

How much does it cost?
